Supported Google Contacts integrations
Authorizing Google Contacts
For Google Contacts, We need you to log into your account and allow access: We connect with all Google accounts. When you click 'Authorize Google Contacts', a pop-up window appears asking you to log in and allow access.
If you already authorized Google Contacts in the past or in any other PieSync integration, you'll be able to skip this step and choose from your CONNECTED ACCOUNTS.
[IF] Supported Conditions/Filters
By default we'll look at any contact in your contact list. Attention, this is not always the same list as the one you see on your phone. There might be many more. You can always manage your contacts via Google's website. If you don't want to sync all contacts in a rule, you can use these filters
- (not) IN GROUP
- GETS DELETED
- ALL FIELDS (including custom fields)
[THEN] Supported Actions
- ADD TO GROUP
- REMOVE FROM GROUP
- UPDATE FIELDS (INCLUDING CUSTOM FIELDS)
Default Field Mapping
Google Contacts is very data rich and offers ample fields to store contact information. Depending on the other app you're syncing with, a default mapping is proposed. This could look like this. If you're expecting Google Contacts fields to appear here and they are not, it is likely the other app does not support this field by default.
PieSync syncs the default name field(s) that come with the apps. Sometimes they have a different structure in both apps you connect. E.g. first and last names are separate in app A and joint in one field in app B. In the background, PieSync joins first and last names together from app A to B and separates them again from app B to A. Our algorithm is smart about which part it updates in app B
Customizable Field Mapping
You can custom map your Google Contacts custom fields and any additional standard fields that aren't included in the default mapping yet. For Google Contacts in Particular, you can create a new Custom Field through our sync by simply entering it [Custom Field] ! Bear in mind a mapping between two fields can only exist if the types of fields are compatible. More information on Customizable Field Mapping.
You are able to SYNC UNSUBSCRIBES one-way.
When a contact gets unsubscribed in your marketing tool (MailChimp, for example), we add the tag
'PieSync_Unsubscribes' to that same contact in Google Contacts.
In connections with Google where adding a tag in app B is a supported trigger, you are able to SYNC DELETIONS one-way. When a contact is deleted in Google, we add the tag 'PieSync_trash' to that same contact in app B. You will be able to review this segment first before e.g. deleting or taking action on that side of the sync.
*The availability of this feature is app and connection dependent. If the feature box (screenshots above) is not there to tick, it's simply not possible. We need to be able to detect deletions on one side and at the same time be able to create add the tag 'PieSync Trash' on the other side. More Information on Syncing Deletions in other integrations.
Additionally sync to 'My contacts'
You can additionally sync your contacts to the Google Contacts group 'My Contacts’. This feature is especially useful for iPhone users, as your iPhone contacts get synced to 'my contacts' in Google by default.
Google storage limits
When using the Gsuite Directory, you have the following limits to store contacts:
- Maximum number of external contacts (= without a G suite domain): 50.000
- Total storage space: 20 MB
- Maximum seize per contact: 2 KB
